Structure of PhD Society
Executive Board Members
The heart of the society
Executive board members are elected at the AGM. They sit on the board, make decisions for the society, and have voting powers.
They are:
-
President
-
Vice-President
-
Social Officer
-
PGR Experience/ Advocacy Officer
-
Disability Officer

PhD society highly advises 4th years to not take any executive role in the society. While we are grateful to all who wish to contribute, we do not want to put unnecessary pressure on people in their writing-up year.
Ordinary Board Members
The wise ones
Past executive board members who have stepped down from their role but want to stay involved with the PhD society.
They sit on the board and have voting rights.
As in most cases ordinary board members will be PhD students in their final year, we do not want to put pressure or expectations on their participation: they sit on the board to help make decisions and to insure continuity, but are not expected to organise events.
Committee Members
The working groups
Society members who are active in one of our committees.
They report to the head of committee (an executive board member), who reports to the board. They do not sit on the board, or have voting rights.
People can volunteer to join a committee or be recruited, and candidates are approved by the board.
