Social and Wellbeing

The Social and Wellbeing committee works to support the overall wellbeing of PhD students through organising a variety of routine and special events to foster a supportive and cross-disciplinary PGR community.  From weekly writing days, regular guided meditation, workshops on emotions and fieldwork and a peer-to-peer mentoring programme, this committee wants to respond to the needs of our cohort and encourage a balanced PhD journey. If you’d like to put on a workshop, event or suggest something please let us know. The stressors we face as academic researchers don’t have to be the norm and we want to work to mitigate the stereotypical over-worked PhDer. Wellbeing, especially in forms of self-care and self-compassion, can get side-lined in the PhD process and we want to contribute to a supportive environment that puts these two practices at the core.
